No work on site today, a bit of a lull in activity waiting for the brickies to show up.
Thanks to our future Metricon redeveloping neighbours down the road (you know who you are :) who dropped off this interesting bit of nostalgia about our street, back in a time when you could get a whole street graded for 7 pounds, 10 shillings!
When we bought the old place last May, the owner said he'd been there 30 odd years or so and it looks like it was one of the original 3 bed weatherboards that you can just make out in the article. Someone with a better knowledge of old cars could probably date the article from the shape of the car in the picture?

How funny.... could you imagine how council would react if you tried to do something like that these days? So nice to see old articles like that.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the street in Beaumaris I grew up in. I must have been very young but I remember the very rough bitumen road before it was made smooth; and the pratically non-existent footpath outside our house that was a broken rough stretch of bitumen as well before the council put a concrete one in. These days it all has to be done, and landscaped! And these suburbs are the well-to-do ones these days!
